what are peoples experiences of having the swine flu jab while being pregnant?

by admin on February 1, 2010

I went to the doctors today to confirm my pregnancy, but as soon as i got there she started talking about the swine flu jab and before i knew it i was being rail roaded into having the jab. I then thought after i didn’t really know that much about it for pregnant women as i hadn’t looked into it with it being an unplanned pregnancy. Now im worried its not been researched enough and is my baby at risk. Please tell me of your experiences , did you have the jab and did your baby deliver ok?

I’m still pregnant but had my jab at 26 weeks. Had a sore arm for a couple of days but nothing else. Every scan I’ve had shows healthy, big baby.

I think they should have let you have some time to think about it, but rest assured your baby is at no harm xx

I would never submit to vaccinations while pregnant.

If they managed to talk you into it, you have a long way to go in learning to be assertive and sticking up for yourself.

If you don’t feel comfortable getting the shot then don’t! :) They can’t force you to get it. I’m 36 weeks and never got the swine flu jab. I got the regular flu shot but my doctor was never really worried about the swine flu one. I made it through just fine. I’m not sure what the risks are of getting the jab and how it effects the baby.. Just talk to your doctor about it.. If you don’t feel comfortable getting it then don’t. They can’t make you do it if you don’t want to.

I got my Swine flu shot when I was 23 weeks pregnant and I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and my baby is very healthy I had an ultrasound just due to being paranoid something would happen to the baby.. But they say hes very healthy and growing very well.. I have had lots of friends get it too and they delivered healthy fine baby’s.. I only got it just due to there’s 2 life’s at risk instead of just mine and I would rather protect my baby. Only problem I had after the shot was SORE ARM for a good few days..

I had my shot early in pregnancy, maybe 16 weeks (I dont remember for sure, sorry) but neither me or the baby had reactions to it (I mean I didnt get sick and his heart rate stayed the same). Im 35 weeks now and still fine..wouldnt even know I had it. Sorry I havent delivered yet to answer that part of the question. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Do yourself a favor and do some research on this before deciding. From what I’ve heard there are DEFINITE risks for baby in pregnancy (especially in first trimester)… And honestly, swine flu isn’t much worse than regular ol’ flu unless you are elderly or sickly. If you are healthy – I wouldn’t do it. Just my opinion – but I declined both H1N1 and regular flu vaccines for the safety of the baby. My sister and brother in law and their daughters all had it and took the meds for it and were fine. My sister in law, her hubby and their 5 children also took the meds (after diagnosis) and were also fine. Our government has got everyone running scared, but don’t let that make your decision FOR YOU. You be in charge of your own thinking.

Good luck and congrats!

Hi
I was faced with the same situation when I just found out I was pregnant so understand your concerns. I decided to get jab at 6 weeks (am now 15 and pregnancy going well). Its a personal choice. The reasons I went for it were that because of my job working in a school I am at high risk to the infection, also if I did get it I know from being ill in pregnancy before that it takes a lot for your body to recover from any illness as your immune system is weaker, my baby could be effected therefore if I got swine flu…
Injection fine, sore arm. If you get it done do it then forget and just enjoy the wonderful miracle of your new baby. Chances are it will be fine…after all specialists recommend pregnant women get it done.
